Located at the eastern edge of the Grand Prairie, McComb is a quiet village occupying just 0.91
square miles in Pleasant Township, Hancock County, Ohio. The comfortable, easy lifestyle of
McComb is enhanced by a temperate climate that provides dry, moderate summers and crisp, cold
winters filled with postcard images of snow on the empty fields. The variety of hardwoods and
evergreens prevalent in the area make the fall a season resplendent with vibrant colors. In the
springtime farmers working on tractors in the fields are a common sight. McComb is surrounded by
farm country.
The village itself provides locals with most of the necessities and pleasures of living with a grocery, a
bank, medical offices, two pizzerias and a carry-out. There is a florist shop, a large furniture store,
an antiques dealer and a bar. The barber shop on Main street is an excellent place to talk about
farming, racing or sports. The local schools are always a source of pride for the educational
excellence as well as the spirited athletics.
There is a lovely park with modern playground equipment and a spanking new pool. Soon the pool
with have a twisting water slide. The two reservoirs provide a great place for folks to spend a quiet
summer day fishing. The ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and other facilities are usually
busy with summertime fun. On Saturdays in the summer, there is a farmer's market where people go
to buy locally grown produce and fresh, home-baked goods
Holidays in McComb are occasions for celebration. The village holds a parade for Independence
Day, Memorial Day and Halloween. The biggest party is the annual Cookie Fest. The largest
employer in McComb is the Consolidated Biscuit Company, a large commercial bakery that makes
cookies. Most people simply call it "The Cookie". When the wind is just right, the air is filled with
the homey fragrance of baking cookies.
McComb is a lovely, secure place to live where the pace is easy and the people smile with good
grace and Midwestern values.
