Swimming Pool

On Monday, Feb 8, the council voted to keep the rates and the hours for the pool the same as last year.  Seasonal
rates for a family of 6 or less will be $100 and for a non-village family, $120.  Single memberships for residents will
be $65 and for others $75.  Daily passes will be available for $3.00 per person.  Non-profit organizations will be
allowed to bring groups to the pool at a cost of $2 per person.  A non-family group can receive a membership for
five persons or less for $95.00.  Persons 63 and older and village employees and their immediate family may swim
for free.  Pool parties will be available for $50 plus the cost of food.  Swim lessons are being offered for free.   Pool
hours will be 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Lifeguard applications may be picked up at the Village office.  Information for
training to become a Certified Lifeguard can be obtained at the Hancock County American Red Cross or the
Findlay YMCA.

Village Sewer Separation Project

The Village has completed the required sewer separation as mandated by the OEPA.  Other than a couple of
connections and pipe lining portions of the project that are in the planning, and dirt and grass work that will be
addressed in the spring for final completion, the majority of the project is completed.  The Village is scheduling with
Poggemeyer Design Group, an inspection program for homeowners, to make sure that all clean water connections
are separated from the sanitary system in accordance with the OEPA regulations.  Once the dates, times and all
other information is gathered for these inspections to begin and who will be performing them, a letter will be sent out
pertaining to such inspections.  The Village wishes to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to all residents
during the construction process of this separation.

Picnic

Spring and Summer are just around the corner and with all the family picnics, family reunions, birthday parties that
you may want to have at the park in one of the four shelter houses, it is time to make your reservations.  There is NO
fee for reserving any of the shelters, but you must call the office to get your name on the calendar.  Call Joyce today
at 419-293-3521.  Shelter house No. 1 is the shelter closest to the Water Treatment Plant at the north end of the
park along the highway.  Shelter house No. 2 is the shelter in the middle of the park.  Shelter house No. 3 is the BIG
shelter in front of the big reservoir and shelter house No. 4 is the new shelter built by the ball diamonds #3 and #4 at
the back of the park. Call and reserve yours today.  All the Village asks is that you go to the shelter (after calling
ahead to the office) the morning of your reservation and hang a sign on the shelter to show that it is taken.

Spring Clean Up

Mark your calendars for the Village Spring Clean Up.  Thursday and Friday, April 1 and 2, will be the scheduled
days for Spring Clean Up.  Items to be picked up are brush, sticks, limbs, yard clippings.  Please pile items at the
curb.  Do not place anything in the street and
items in plastic bags will not be picked up.  No Plastic Allowed!!

Building Permits

I have received calls in the past inquiring about building permits.  As we all know, many people build and remodel
their properties without checking first the rules and regulations for their project.  Most of the time, there is no
problem.  A simple building permit is issued for the work desired.  There have been times that questions need
answered or a variance request for the intended work must be applied for.  Checking and inquiring about a building
permit may save you time and headaches later.   Check with the Village Zoning Code to see if your project qualifies
for a building permit.

New Bike/Walk Path

Yet another addition to our already wonderful park has been started.  A Bike/Pedestrian Walk Path has been
installed around the bottom of the big reservoir this past fall.  Still under construction, yet usable now, this path will
wind its way from the front of the park by the Water Treatment Plant around the little reservoir and continue to the
back of the park and around the big reservoir.  Trees have been planted , lining what is currently stoned and will line
the path that is planned for the front half.   Benches and trash receptacles will be added in the Spring as well.  This
path will be a great addition to our park and give walkers, as well as bike riders, a very nice place to get some
exercise.  This hope is to have the whole path asphalted with the help of grants that will be applied for.  Come out
this Spring and take a walk!

Recycle Program

The Hancock County Solid Waste Department has updated the recycling containers that they bring to the Village.
The containers are of the roll off kind that they pick up with their truck when full.  The new containers, which are
located by the Village garage on Maple St., are very different than the trailer that they have brought to us in the past.
These new containers are more efficient for their recycling program.  It may take a little more effort on our part as we
sort and recycle these materials, but I trust that in time, this will still be a very desires service that the Village
residents will want to continue.  I ask for cooperation and patience with this new container and how items are to be
deposited.  Please
place all items inside the appropriate marked bins.  Do not leave any items outside the
container.  If this become a problem, the recycling program may be in jeopardy.   The Village will do its best to
monitor the container to have it removed and replaced when full.  Thank you in advance for your consideration and
cooperation on this issue.

Let's Go Golfing!!

The McComb Rotary will be hosting its 49th Annual McComb Rotary Open at Shady Acres Golf Course here in
McComb.  The date of this wonderful event is July 21.  This golf tournament is open to the public and all are
welcome and encouraged to participate.  More information on this golf outing will be in the July newsletter.  For
more information on this or about the McComb Rotary, please contact Bob Smith, Bob Schwab or any McComb
Rotary member.

New Booster Seat Law

Because seat belts were designed for adults, a new law regarding the use of booster seats will maek Ohio's
roadways safe for children and better protect them from the hazards of the road.

Effective October 7, 2009, children younger than 8, unless they are at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall, must use a booster
seat.  This new law, combined with existing law requiring children younger that 4 years and less than 40 pounds to
use a child safety seat, and children 8 to 15 to use a safety seat or seat belt, will make traveling safer for Ohio's
children.

Law enforcement will issue warnings only, beginning October 7, 2009.  Full enforcement will begin April 7, 2010,
with fines ranging from $25 to $75 per violation.

The Ohio Buckles Buckeyes (OBB) program provides child safety seats to eligible low-income Ohioans and has
distributed more that 20,000 child safety and booster seats in the past five years.  Call 1-800-755-GROW (4769) to
find the OBB program nearest you.

Just a friendly reminder, once again, to be aware of your property conditions as we come into this new year.  The
Village will be doing its best this year to try to remedy unsatisfactory situations.  Notices will be delivered to the
property owners as to what the violation is that needs to be corrected.  Please help and do your part to pick up,
clean, and eliminate any problems with you property as you may see them.  The Village and your neighbors thank
you.

Happy New Year to all.  I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.  Another year is upon us and I am looking forward
to the betterment of McComb.  Have you noticed the new trees and walking track around the reservoir?  It Looks
great and adds a lot to our park.  As always, my phone is always available at 419-293-2218.  I am looking forward
to 2010 and at this writing, I hope I can say "Go Bucks".

anytime for these sessions and those who attended in the Fall can just attend on their regular day.

Toddler Time will also resume on Thursday, February 11.  Sessions meet at 11:15 am and are for children ages 18
months through 2 years along with the caregiver.

Our Friends Group sponsored their 5th Annual Basket Auction during November and December and this year's
event was an overwhelming success.  We featured 162 baskets which raised $4,521 for the library.  All monies from
tis event will be used to purchase items for the library's collection.  We truly appreciate the hard work that our
Friends Group puts into this auction and those who support their efforts.

Tax forms for 2009 will be available at the library as we receive them.

A huge THANK YOU to our patrons and community who have been a true blessing in the midst of our financial cuts
this year.  We have received a generous donation from the McComb VFW which will be used to purchase books,
magazines, movies and other items for our collections.  Our Friends Group has also designated all the profits from
this year's auction to go into our collections budget.  Patrons and community members have donated books, movies
and other materials, purchased antibacterial wipes which we use to clean books and have donated money for
library needs.  Our Summer Reading Finale was entirely paid for by our Friends Group and community donations.
This support is truly appreciated by the library staff and trustees.

Village Brush Pile

The Village has a brush pile for your tree limbs and other yard wastes.  This pile is located back of the Waste Water
Treatment Plant on Scott street, inside the chain link fence.  It is open to
Village residents only and open 24 hours
a day, it is monitored as well.  Grass clippings and leaves should be dumped on their own separate pile, which is
located just before the Treatment Plant as you drive back.  Signs are posted to help you get to the right area for
dumping your items.  The signs posted for Brush, Hardwood Items, Grass Clippings and Leaves are there to assist
you, as well as the village, to speed up the mulching process.  The Village asks that you do your best with abiding by
these signs.  Plastic bags are not allowed to be left at any of the piles.
Please No Plastic.  Thanks for you
cooperation and courtesy.

Call Before You Dig

Natural gas is clean, efficient and reliable.  It is brought to your home be a series of pipes, usually "caution yellow"
and buried only about 12 to 18 inches deep.  It is crucial that you call the Ohio Utilities Protection Service at
1-800-362-2764 or dial  811 to come to you and locate all underground utilities buried on you property.  Natural gas
is colorless and odorless, but a chemical that smells like rotten eggs is added to help detect a leak.  If you think you
smell gas, leave the area immediately.  Do not turn on or off any switch and do not use a phone and these make
cause a spark which can ignite the gas.  Call you local gas provider at 419-424-3427 or 1-800-424-3427 or 911
from a neighboring home or business.

Oliver Street Reconstruction

You might have noticed a survey crew in the Oliver Street area this past Fall.  Peterman and Associates from
Findlay was hired to take on the task of engineering the Village's next project.  The Village is applying for funding
through the Issue  Program for the street reconstruction of Oliver Street.  Funding information or confirmation should
be received in January, with the releasing of those funds around July 1.  Construction should begin soon thereafter,
when the bidding process is completed.  Oliver Street will have curbs and sidewalds installed just like its sister
street Perrin Avenue.

McComb VFW Post 9231 Moving

The McComb VFW Post 9231 will be moving to a new location in the next coming month.  They will be occupying
the building on the corner of East Main St. and North Liberty St., next to the Village Administrative building (the old
Tony's/Yesterdays restaurant).  McComb VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW are accepting new members.
For more info on how you can become a member, please contact the VFW at 419-293-2266.

House Number Ordinance New for 2010

A new house number program throughout the Village will be implemented and enforced in 2010.  The Police, Fire
and Safety committee has had discussions of such a program and with the approval of Village Council, this
program will assist emergency responders during emergencies.  House numbers must be visible from the street.
There have been some instances where an emergency call has been placed and the responders were unable to
locate the residence in a timely manner.  This program will hopefully eliminate any confusion during these very
important and possibly life threatening minutes.  The Village asks for you cooperation with making sure your house
numbers are plainly visible, legible and unobstructed to be seen from the street.  House numbers will be available,
free of charge at the Village Office by February 1, 2010, to be picked up by anyone who may need them.  If you have
numbers already installed on you house or mailbox, be sure they are in good condition and are even readable at
night.
