Fitness Trail
The fitness trail around the bottom of the reservoirs is all complete and ready for use. Thanks to the Village, the Hancock
County Park District and the ODNR NatureWorks grants, this path is a great way to take a 1.6 mile round trip walk, run or bike,
starting from the water plant. It has been getting busy since it was first started and is going to be a wonderful way to get out
and enjoy this great park that the Village offers to all. Thanks to the Village employees that have spent their time planting
trees, installing benches and trash receptacles along this path. Your hard work is always appreciated. GREAT JOB!!
Fall Clean up
This years Fall clean-up will be Thursday and Friday, October 13 &14. The Village workers will be picking up brush, limbs,

locations back at the Waste Water Treatment Plant located back the lane off of Scott Street. The Village asks that signs be
read and items be dropped off at the proper place. Thanks for your attention to this Village service.
….a moment with the mayor
Good News! The Village is back talking again with Good Shepherd Nursing Home. We are excited and I think Good Shepherd
board is excited, of course we are just talking. We gave them a tour of our Village and they were impressed with the town and
the site. Just hope someday we can put everything together.
The Community Partnership will be putting up a sign for the new community building at the park. The building and site are
subject to change depending on the nursing home and assisted living. Plans are to be made on building after this years
cookie festival, August 6 & 7, 2011

CSO Inspections
The Village will be continuing to inspect residences to make sure all clean water connections are going to the storm sewer as
required by the EPA. Inspections will be performed by a Village employee and the inspection will consist of looking at
downspouts, floor drains, sump pumps in crawl spaces and basements. If the inspections reveal anything in question or in
violation, all items will be recorded and letters will be sent out to property owners who need to address these problems. A
smoke test for the entire Village will be scheduled. This smoke test will help and assist the Village by revealing problem areas
where clean water must be removed from the sanitary sewers. As soon as the date for this test is finalized, it will be advertised
in the Courier and posted throughout the Village. Some people have called and asked, “why is my property being inspected, I
don’t have a sump pump or my down spouts go on top the ground, etc…..”, the answer is the inspector has to visually check
for himself and record any findings whether good or bad, as required by the EPA. We apologize for any inconveniences this
may cause. Thank you for your cooperation with these mandated inspections.
A Note From Chief Courtright
Accidents can happen in a hurry, that is why the McComb Fire Department is urging everyone to ...THINK SAFETY for the
SUMMER!!
Everyone enjoys a cookout and that is the only fire allowed in McComb. Grills are preferred, but a fire pit or ring is allowed
with restrictions. The ring can not be over 3’ across, must not exceed 3’ in height and must burn dry wood only. Should
smoke affect a neighbor, you may be required to put it out. We hope everyone enjoys the Summer!! Chief Courtright
Need A Permit?
Just a reminder to check and see if you need a building permit before any construction is started on any projects. If you are
tearing something down, check with the Village office about a Demo Permit. This Demo Permit gives notice to the Village of
any utility lines that may be in the demo site that need to be marked or located to avoid any damages or repairs that may
occur. To be on the safe side….check before you dig or demo.
Ash Tree Removal
The Village will be continuing to remove ash trees throughout the town that are located on Village property and in right of
ways. A survey has been taken to count and located all Ash trees that are on Village property, in right of ways or Village
easements. The trees that are dead or pose a safety risk will be cut down first, with the ones that show signs of infestation
being watched and eradicated accordingly.
Family Reunions, Picnics, Parties
If you are planning any family reunions, parties, picnics and are in need of one of the four shelter houses for your event,
please call Joyce at the Village office to reserve what shelter you may want to use.
Shelter #1 is by the Water Plant
Shelter #2 is in the middle of the park
Shelter #3 is behind ball diamond #2 (the largest shelter)
Shelter #4 is by ball diamond #3 & #4 (newest shelter)
All these shelters have electric and need to be reserved for your use. It is suggested that on the day of your event that a sign
be hung up as early as possible to let everyone know that the shelter is reserved and being used. We ask that all trash be
picked up and put in the proper container before you leave, this will keep the park looking nice and the shelter ready for the
next user. Thank you for help!!
REMINDER
VILLAGE BRUSH PICK UP IS THE 2ND WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. PLEASE BRING ITEMS TO THE CURB AND
REMEMBER…..NO PLASTIC BAGS..ITEMS IN PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP!!!
Gas Budgets
Gas budgets start July 15th of each year and run to the May reading, with June being the catch-up month and new budget
amounts are figured. Many people have called the office during the month of June and have asked, “why is my bill so much
this month?”. This is because June is the “catch-up month” for the budgets. During the course of your budget year, please
watch the “AA” amount on your bill. If you see on your bill a dash (—) in front of the “AA” amount, that is your credit you have
built up in your gas account, if there is NO dash, you will be short on your budget come June which is the catch-up month,
giving you a higher bill than normal. We ask that you, the customer, keep a close eye on this to avoid any surprises when
June rolls upon you. If you should have any questions on this issue, please call the office to discuss your account. If you
would like to change your budget amount during the month of June, please call the office during this time. TO SPEED UP THE
BILL PAYING PROCESS, WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE BRING IN YOUR ENTIRE UTILITY BILL THAT IS MAILED TO YOU
WHEN PAYING. Thank you for your cooperation to these important issues.
Help Needed for the Dunk Tank
We are looking for people to sit on the dunk tank for the Cookie Festival. We invite any and all groups that wish to participate
in this fun event.
The cost is 3 balls for $1.00. There will be a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
The idea is to have a scheduled time for your organization to have someone you choose to sit on the seat and get all of your
friends and relatives try to dunk them. We will have Saturday and Sunday time slots of one hour for each person or
organization or if you have a couple of people that want to do it, we could do half hour intervals. You will be able to tell
everyone your time slot and have them there to cheer your team on and try to make you the winner.
The proceeds from this competition will go towards the building funds for the new Community Building we plan for the park.
This should be a fun competition for everyone and in August it is usually always HOT, so it should be a COOL competition for
all involved. If it works out we could do it every year and maybe even have a traveling trophy for you to display in your trophy
case or business.
This competition is open to any and all groups that wish to participate.
Please contact Carol Cary to register at 419-293-7090, or by cell at

What Is Disc Golf??
Many of you hay have seen the bright yellow baskets in the park near the reservoir, these are part of McComb's newest
recreational activity known as Disc Golf. Many of you already know how to play and keep score but may not even realize it.
Disc golf is played and scored just like traditional golf except by using a disc instead of clubs and a ball and a basket instead
of a cup. Just as you would have a putter and different clubs to use for regular golf, now you have different discs to use for
different shots in disc golf. The difference in the discs is the edge of each disc. You throw from a designated tee area, RED
for beginners or recreational players and BLUE for advanced or professional players. Once you have teed off, the next
players in line tees off until all the players in that group has thrown. At this point, you all walk towards the discs with the
person furthest away from the basket throwing first. As you play, keep track of how many times you throw until your disc
comes to rest in the chains or in the basket. Your score is then the number of throws (strokes) you made. If the disc comes
to rest in the water hazards or on any paved surface, retrieve the disc, if you can, and add 1penalty throw to your total for that
hole. The next throw should be made about 1 meter (3 feet) inbounds from where your disc went out of bounds. Once the
hole is complete, record your score and move to the next tee. At the end of the round, the person with the lowest score wins.
Besides the obvious health benefits of disc golf, it is also a very cheap sport as 99% of all courses in Ohio are FREE to play.
Discs are relatively inexpensive with the base discs being approximately $8.00 to $10.00 each and the higher quality discs
running from $16.00 to $19.00. Discs are currently available for sale at Primrose Flowers& Gifts here in McComb. Everyone
should try disc golf once. It’s truly a family sport that has a vast age range that even young children could throw a disc.
If you would like to see more or participate, come out to Wednesday Doubles League at 6:30 pm every week, to see more
about this awesome sport. Plans are being looked at to possibly add another 9 holes to this wonderful course.

Ohio Mills and the Special Olympics
Ohio Mills Corporation has partnered with The Special Olympics of Ohio to create a clothing donation initiative that has raised
nearly $2 million for Special Olympics programming in Ohio during our 15 year partnership.
We are asking you to help us collect donated clothing for re-use by allowing us to place a 4’ x 5’ x 6’ Collection Bin that will be
located in the Village parking lot next to the Fire Dept., and will be accessible to the public day and night.
Presently, Ohio Mills has more than 600 bins throughout the State of Ohio; they have been well received by property owners
and the surrounding communities. We would like your help in bringing this Green recycling program to McComb.
Ohio Mills takes great pride in keeping our collection bins professionally maintained. Pick-ups are scheduled 1 to 3 times
weekly at each location, depending on the volume of donations. The bin and surrounding area are kept neat and clean. Our
hope is that the Village of McComb will be a good partner for our program and you can help us launch this green initiative that
helps the community recycle in their area, while also helping Special Olympics. Special Olympics contributes to the physical,
social, and psychological development of the athletes. Through successful experiences in sports, they gain confidence and
build a positive self-image which carries over into the classroom, home, job and community.

McCOMB POOL IS OPEN EVERYDAY 1:00-9:00
It is still not to late to get your membership to the McComb Pool. Residents of McComb can purchase a Family Membership
for 6 members for $100.00 ( Non-resisidents of McComb for $120.00), with the option of adding additional members for
$10.00 per person. You also have the option of a Group Membership for 5 members for $100.00. These members may
include residents or non-residents and family or friends. Many families go together to purchase this membership instead of
our single membership which is $65.00 for McComb residents and $75.00 for non-residents. Children 5 and under and adults
63 and over are free and do not have to be included on a membership. Regular daily price per patron is $3.00.
We have had an exciting start to our season. Some of our lifeguards had to perform rescues on a few different occasions
when children got away from their mothers and began struggling in the water. Please remember that all children age 7 and
under must be accompanied and supervised at all times, by an adult to enter the pool area. The safety of all our patrons is
our number one concern. Thank you to all of the lifeguards for staying alert and working together to keep everyone safe!
The pool is still selling Brick Pavers to be engraved and placed under the umbrella on the bricked patio. These bricks may be
in honor or memory of someone or with your name or business name on them. These can be purchased at the pool or City
Building. The money will go toward purchasing additional items for the pool. Come on down and check out the McComb
Pool.
Get Ready…..Let’s BOCCE!
Bocce? That’s right Bocce ball. The Village, along with the help of Glenn Vowell and many volunteers, will be installing the
area’s first Bocce Ball Court. This 12’ x 60’ court will be installed at the front of the park on the south side of the swimming
pool. Bocce Ball is a great game that is close to shuffle board but instead of sticks and pucks, balls are used to play this
game. This Bocce court will be handicap accessible and be able to be enjoyed by all. Once again, there will be no charge to
play, but you must have your own equipment. For more information on how to play or any questions that you may have,
contact Mr. Glenn Vowell at 419-293-2276

Be courteous to your neighbors…..help keep your property clear of tall grass and weeds as well as trash and garbage or any
other unsightly items.. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this issue.
It is still being noticed that some people is continuing to blow their grass into the street when mowing. These grass clippings
get washed into the sewer system and contribute to the system being clogged with unnecessary debris. Please try to avoid
this action or please clean your grass off the street after you are finished mowing. Thank you for your help with this ongoing
matter.
